They are guardian spirits who protect the home, family, and even the crossroads. The Lares are part of daily domestic rituals, and their worship is an integral aspect of Roman life. In these statues, the Lares often held attributes or symbols of their protective role, such as a cornucopia symbolizing abundance, a rhyton (drinking horn) representing hospitality, or a patera (ritual dish) used in offerings. Some Lares statues also featured the figures standing on a base or pedestal. These statues are to be placed in a special shrine or niche within the Roman household, known as the lararium, where offerings and prayers are made to ensure the family’s well-being and prosperity. Model 1 Lar has rhyton and patera in his hands, Model 2 comes with Cornucopia. The figurine is a cast of brass and can be silver-plated and patinated on your order.
